The Exploding Hearts
The Exploding Hearts
I rediscovered Guitar Romantic this week — what a fucking awesome band and awful tragedy. They could've been huge.
Re: The Exploding Hearts
Here is a song.

About those influences, here is a partial list: the early Clash if Mick Jones wrote all the songs and the Only Ones or Buzzcocks at their emotional best, but also classic power pop sounds like a (much) tougher Rubinoos, rock & roll like a tighter and sober New York Dolls, and the lo-fi approach of Billy Childish.
Guitar Romantic is an amazingly raw and melodic debut, fully realized and original despite the obvious debt to the punk past.
There isn't a weak song here, not a single one that isn't on par with the best punk-pop. If you don't have this album and have even the slightest affinity for poppy punk rock or punky pop/rock, you are missing out on something special.

I concur... love Guitar Romantic. I sort of played it to death (poor choice of words?) a couple years back, but it has a permanent spot on my iPod.
Re: The Exploding Hearts
Never heard of this band before.
I feel that there is a fascistic element, for example, in the Rolling Stones . . .

Listening to Throwaway Style on the flashplayer thingy.
I like this. Reminds me of the first Strokes album, which is one of my favorite albums ever. I hate most of the music that gets lumped in with that Strokes scene, but THIS is good. Guitars are louder, and they aren't afraid to solo/be joyful. They don't seem like they're looking at their boots. I like this and am downloading further.

Who pfaffed the pfaff? Who got pfaffed tonight?
Re: The Exploding Hearts
They're pretty rad — the tune I put up a few posts up in this thread has a great little Police and Thieves reference in the intro before going all barrelhouse Dolls.Still216 wrote:Listening to Throwaway Style on the flashplayer thingy.

Ditto. I listened to it tons, but it somehow fell off my map some years ago.arsebundren77 wrote:I concur... love Guitar Romantic. I sort of played it to death (poor choice of words?) a couple years back, but it has a permanent spot on my iPod.

They remind me a bit of the Mick-fronted Clash.

Re: The Exploding Hearts
Listening to Guitar Romantic right now. I have heard "I'm A Pretender" before! The Underground Garage channel on satellite radio was playing this in high rotation back in '05. I forgot how much I loved this song. This album is giving me the same rush the first Strokes album did, now that I'm hearing the entire thing. Thanks for pointing me back to this stuff, Inder...

Re: The Exploding Hearts
Yeah, it's a great album. Bought it a few years back. It's a shame what happened as they could have been world-beaters.
I'm so punk, I don't even take my leather jacket off when it catches fire. Which it does frequently, because of how fucking punk I am.

Re: The Exploding Hearts
Just rediscovered this album as well. Totally sounds like Mick fronted Clash. Full of barre chords and classic rock and roll riffs. Idk how big they would have become though. Lots of great bands from that early 2000s era got sadly ignored.
Re: The Exploding Hearts
They're great. Highly recommend Terry Six's stuff with The Nice Boys and Terry & Louie.
