Great song, brings me back to my K-Tel days. "They don't want your name...."
Sanctuary, Straight Lines, Living By Numbers, This World of Water...all great pop songs. :approve:

All on the album A To B (1980).

Enjoy. ;)

Brilliant mate, thanks. I'll be surprised if there's a song as good as LBN on it, but looking forward to finding out :)

Just dug out my old K-tel collection and got this song on Star Tracks which has got some great pop stuff on it: 7teen by The Regents, Echo Beach, Turning Japanese, When I'm WIth You. Of course there's a fair amount of schlock on it too, but to a 12 year old it was all Rock 'N Roll ;)

Ha, it sure is! I think K-Tel should really have stuck to the Disco & Pop labels where they couldn't fuck it up completely. But the music was great so who cared really? Never actually came across that collection before, but I have a different K-Tel album with Toast on it and always loved that song, definitely the highlight of Paul Young's career.

My favourite Paul Young related thing is that, when covering Nicky Thomas' Love of the Common People, Strummer had to make very clear that he wasn't taking a song from the catalogue that contained Wherever I Lay My Hat.

Can't think why that should've bothered Joe. Both are great songs and Paul Young's version of WILMH is excellent.

David Watts and The Jam's spin off version, that must've a Marky playlist.

I can't really say anything positive about Paul Young other than that not even he could manage to butcher Love of the Common People...actually at a push I'd probably prefer to listen to his version than Joe's live take.

SLF did the best cover of Love of the Common People on their fantastic Now Then album.
