The shuffle says African music is criminally underrepresented here.

Souleymane - Orchestra Baobab
D.N.A. - A Flock Of Seagulls
If You Don't Come Back - Elvis Presley
Needle Time - Elvis Costello
Vagabond Of The Western World - Thin Lizzy
Take Another Look - The Cars
Glory, Glory - The Byrds
I would not argue this.
I had Psychedelic Shoes by Etubom Rex Williams not long ago.

Flock of Seagulls are the finest band Africa has ever produced.

So getting back to Olaf and Jame's comments about the lack of African music.

Anyone have any recommendations?

Not much of an authority, would love to listen to more too. One album I've always liked is Talking Timbuktu with Ry Cooder and Ali Farka Toure. I think latter is worth checking out at least.

Hello,

I'm not sure how African you want to go. I know mostly South African pop/some mbaqanga. Here's a video of Mawillie's (I don't think I've posted this before). Unfortunately, he passed a few years ago. He's pretty pop. Ladysmith Black Mombazo is tremendous vocal stuff. Hugh Masakela is more jazzy but really good.

Back in the late 80s there was a show called Africa Now that would sometimes have a musical segment and I did enjoy some. Like any good liberal/left white person Ive seen Ladysmith Black Mambazo.

Hello,

My wife really likes this group. They actually toured the US (we saw them in Greensboro). My wife knows one of the Queens. It's much more traditional. I think Malcolm had them on Duck Rock.
