Psycho Killer was on a few of the early punk/new wave comps plus the great version from The Old Grey Whistle Test.101Walterton wrote: ↑03 Jun 2020, 6:33pmI was a fan back in the day so maybe I over estimated their commercial success but you are right about their singles discography.Heston wrote: ↑03 Jun 2020, 10:42amWhat hits? Thinking of you Westway Kid recorded in your home town.
If you look at the ‘best known’ songs:
Psycho Killer US 92 - UK no chart
Take Me To The River US 26 - UK no chart
Once In A Lifetime US no chart - UK 14
Burning Down The House US 9 - UK no chart
Road To Nowhere US no chart - UK 6
And She Was US 54 - UK 17
So from their best known songs And She Was was the only single to even chart in both US snd UK???
That is really weird. I also can’t believe Psycho Killer only got to 92 in US snd didn’t chart in UK despite being a huge hit in my world at the time.

Yes, I made the same notes after looking at their discography on Wiki. Really surprised Road To Nowhere wasn't a huge hit in the States as it's an anthem over here. Similar story with And She Was, so catchy and commercial yet a bit weird. As for Once In a Lifetime, it should have been number one on both sides of the Atlantic if there was any justice. One of those all-timer 10/10 songs.101Walterton wrote: ↑03 Jun 2020, 6:33pmI was a fan back in the day so maybe I over estimated their commercial success but you are right about their singles discography.Heston wrote: ↑03 Jun 2020, 10:42amWhat hits? Shit, I forgot about Blondie. Put them at 3rd and move everything else in my list down accordingly. Yes, the Monkees are American, that's why I put them on my list.101Walterton wrote: ↑03 Jun 2020, 9:14pmTalking HeadsHeston wrote: ↑03 Jun 2020, 9:11pmOk, name some better ones?

I'm glad someone beat me to mentioning the Ramones. Add the NY Dolls as well.

I didnt mention them or a lot of other great US bands because I did not think Heston/Wally would be recptive anyway. As it was I was pretty sure I crossed that line.

Oh yeah but many dont fit Heston's historical music timeline restrictions nor his melodic sensibilities.Marky Dread wrote: ↑04 Jun 2020, 9:43amNew York Dolls
