People shit on this record because, I dunno, David Byrne is an ass. Well, yeah, but he's basically always been an ass, albeit better at concealing it. This is a flat-out excellent record and solid Talking Heads record. Bands better wish this was how they went out.

Hello,

I'd consider myself a pretty big Talking Heads fan but I consider this more of a David Byrne album (not to discount the rest of the band). There's a big band sound (not big band in the swing sense but big band as in many instruments/varying contributors - not really a Talking Heads sounding record - to my ears anyway) - lots of horns and most of the songs are big productions.

I like it. Nuff said.

Interesting observation. Yes, it's a diverse cast and sound, but that was generally TH since FoM, no? Adding in extra faces and spaces was standard for them since the Eno days. So that's never seemed all that jarring to me.

What if Weezer told Rivers Cuomo to fuck off and found a helium-voiced/little girl singer? One's appreciation of this is pretty much going to depend on whether you find her voice a plus, acceptable, or too high a hurdle.

Checking this out now, it's kinda fun. I'm not turned off by the voice so far.

When Foxton's bass growls in for the first time it does strange and wonderful things to me.

Great song.

Always loved this song though this is the first time I've heard the alternative version (though it's not said in the title, it is.) I may prefer it, some of Weller's best ever vocals and those extra horns are magnificent.

Two cracking tunes there Tom. I've been playing the fuck out of "When You're Young" lately, it's just one of those perfect songs. The Jam from mid 78 til mid 1980 went on a hell of a run.
There's a tiny, tiny hopeful part of me that says you guys are running a Kaufmanesque long con on the board

It's a real pick 'em as to whether Peter Hook is curating and reinvigorating the music of Joy Division or draining a corpse of its last value. I'm mostly meh on this collection, save for this beautiful interpretation of "Atmosphere," shifting it from a funeral march to something more hopeful sounding.

2am Saturday morning. This is what I'm listening to on youtube. Goes great with my mild wine buzz.

Yeah it certainly is, that second pre chorus beginning with "it's got you in its grip before you're born," is musical perfection for me. Great harmony, love the chord progression and those rising guitar frets at the end... new trousers please.

Weller was a great lyricist. I think he was 21 when he wrote that track.
