Fight the Good Fight - the Interrupters, with many thanks to revbob.
I'm going to have to check this out.
Yeah you need to stop ignoring my suggestions/tastes in music.
Embrace the Reverend.

But in all seriousness I feel I have a pretty good idea of many taste profiles here and wouldnt recommend a lot of things to people without taking that into consideration.
Anything's fair game for me as long as it's not jazz or hardcore anything.
And post 1964 or is it 65 ?
To be fair I do like a lot of pre 65 music but it was after that I think things really hotted up in the wake of the Beatles.
There's a tiny, tiny hopeful part of me that says you guys are running a Kaufmanesque long con on the board

You've probably been asked, but what's your favourite pre-1960 song?

Tough one to call but it would probably have to be a Chuck Berry number. Memphis, Tennessee or Roll Over Beethoven maybe.

The 14 song KISS playlist I made for Doc in the Challenge Thread a couple of years back. This is a really melodic set of songs covering only the years 1978-81, and I enjoyed hearing them again tonight. People should listen to this, cast aside their prejudices, and imagine they were just a power pop band from the late 70s. It will help if you don't look at the pictures...

I may give this a go later tonight and try to be as objective as I can. Don't expect much, though. I tried to watch that KISS live show the other night and lasted about half a song.
Who pfaffed the pfaff? Who got pfaffed tonight?

I'd have pegged you for a Buddy Holly man—he sanded down a lot of early rock n roll's roughness into pop gems.

I'm more inclined towards Eddie Cochran. Buddy was always a bit lightweight for my tastes.

Well he always tends to lean towards the pop-centric side of things.

Not knocking that in general. Just figured BH fell more neatly into that category for you.

The World Still Won't Listen - A Hardcore Tribute to the Smiths.
Would this appeal to someone who cant stand Morrissey's caterwaul?
Sure.
Saw this review on Amazon

OK for headbangers -- not for Smiths fans
It is deceptive that this listing does not have all of the songs/artists listed so that a purchaser can get a sense of what they are actually getting. This CD has nothing but hardcore punk covers of Smiths songs that all sound samey. Every song is revved up beyond belief and shouted over a pogoin' beat. That is fine for a one-off joke, but all of the subtleties that make the Smiths great are gone. If you weren't a Smiths fan in the first place, you would have trouble distinguishing between songs. Only the last track, a cover of Asleep, is slowed down to less that mosh tempo. No-name artists on a tribute album are expected, and it is nice to see that but what this bunch of punks obviously likes and appreciates one of the greatest bands of the 80s. But 60+ minutes of a pogoing soundtrack that has very very very little musically in common with its source material is NOT what Smiths fans will be expecting or looking for. Avoid
They make it sound very appealing, really. I really like the Meatmen's How Soon Is Now.
I was about to ask if that was on it.

Hello,

Various artists - NY Noise; Dance Music from the New York Underground,1978-1982. There's 2 collections with this title. This is the one that starts with Do Dada by the Dance. This collection is pretty good and covers a lot of sounds similar to NY No Wave (Contort Yourself is on both - I think it's on every no wave collection!), and In the Beginning There was Rhythm. The Material track is pretty good. It helps up the appreciation level if you were around during that time and in NY (sorry - that comes across as elitist/artsy/snobby). It's a lot of hit and miss. It's worth listening through at least once as you might come across something you hadn't heard before that sounds good.
