Discovered this morning thru the link below. I'd say the comparisons here would be a puree of early XTC, Talking Heads, and maybe Devo. In other words, a lot of nervous energy. http://dieordiy2.blogspot.com/2020/09/c ... 78-83.html
Hello,
I might add "bar band quality early XTC, Talking Heads, and maybe DEVO". I'm happy they pursued these artists, I just wish they were better at it. If they were playing at a local bar, I'd be happy to see them.
An extremely rare outing for Appetite for Destruction this afternoon.
Might give this a spin again soon, a few half decent numbers on there.
It's a good album. I've grown to respect Axl's fearless vocals on it and the guitar sound is basically AC\DC's.
They lost the plot after this one, but yeah. I stand by it. It’s a damn fine album. Especially if you compare it to its contemporaries in the LA metal scene.
I totally get the distaste for his vocals, but it particularly helps on the gritty first album because it’s so trashy and abrasive but technically on point.
Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

Yeah. If you don’t like that style, there’s nothing I can do to dissuade you, but it is exactly correct for what they were going for.

Cue Hoy to come in and advocate for Warrant.

Oh yeah, based on this, you can appreciate why they didn't light the world on fire. It's a neat little compilation and I'll play it again from time to time, I'm sure, but it's, as you suggest, bar band level art punk.
"Grab some wood, bub.'" - Richard Nixon, Checkers Speech, abandoned early draft
Fantastic compilation and this is my pick of the bunch, one of my favourites ever. Such a brilliant way to spend 3 minutes and 41 seconds.
Hello,
I'm a big Joe Jackson fan. His early stuff was great new wave/energetic pop, then brought in some different new wave-y stuff, then big band, then a bit more sophisticated pop - yes, he got a bit ponderous at times, but man, those first two albums ere great angry young man stuff. I think I went through three copies of Look Sharp on vinyl.
