Hydras Dream, The Little Match Girl. This is a collaboration between a couple Swedish musicians, Anna Von Hausswolff and Matti Bye. I know AVH because Michael Gira of Swans has hyped her (and the records under her own name are very, very good; intense like Swans, but not punishing), but never heard of MB. There's something vaguely Cocteau-ish here, but more gothic and atmospheric yet. Kory might be the only other person here to maybe find this appealing, but it's quite bewitching to me.

Haven't listened to this for ages, but damned but it's hypnotic. Despite the length and commitment required, I think it's my favourite Dome piece.

This was good—when you mentioned the Cocteaus I was expecting more vocals, but it's very hypnotic and I suspect I'll like it even more when I'm not listening at work.Kory wrote: ↑13 May 2019, 1:03pmI will check this out today.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑13 May 2019, 11:20am

The clearest Cocteaus-like song is "The Joys of a New Year," but overall it captured the feel or effect of Treasure to me.Kory wrote: ↑14 May 2019, 12:39pmThis was good—when you mentioned the Cocteaus I was expecting more vocals, but it's very hypnotic and I suspect I'll like it even more when I'm not listening at work.Kory wrote: ↑13 May 2019, 1:03pmI will check this out today.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑13 May 2019, 11:20am

Anna Von Hausswolff, The Miraculous. In a word, majestic. It's a big cinematic sound and scope, dark but uplifting. And more organs outside your average tabernacle.

DL'd a fantastic Godspeed You! Black Emperor! gig from 2002 (Paradiso, Amsterdam) from DiaD yesterday. Jesus but it smokes. Extremely intense.

Godspeed You! Black Emperor!, Yanqui U.X.O.. The studio version of much of the above show.

Caught a bit of American Pie the other day (I can't remember which one, they merge into one other) and though the film wasn't exceptional, this song certainly was, a beauty.

Fantastic stuff! I really got into Van maybe 4 years ago - just after I got divorced. For some reason his music really seemed to speak to me during that time and once I started digging into his catalog I discovered just how consistently good he's been. It's hard to find a bad album by the Belfast Cowboy!!
