Just me and revbob grooving to some laid-back tunes and harmonies.
It really lets my inner SRP shine.
Let me refresh that pina colada for you.

I alluded to this before, but I've only been able to get into their last two albums.

That doesn't surprise me given your tastes. You'd likely be partial, too, to Love Not Money, which is more in a Smiths vein.

As a confirmed Fuzzbox fan—their original look is still one of the coolest looking groups I've ever seen; it made me want to hear them—I'm disappointed that I just learned of this. It's a bit of a mixed bag, tho. It's re-recordings (and perhaps remixes?) of old material. Some is really cool—the dub version of "Spirit in the Sky" is so damned chill—but too much is sadly tepid. Well, to be fair, the weaker stuff is from their sad step to conventionality on their second record. The better stuff is from the Bostin' Steve Austin period.

Never been a big fan of Underworld—listenable but very background noise for me—but I do really dig this one. The last two songs in particular are gorgeously uplifting.

I keep coming back to them every couple of years to see if I'll get the bug. They seem like somebody I should like more but they never really grab me.

Yeah, that's me. I've collected a bunch of their records and try them every so often and it's okay (in the most okayest sense). But this one works.

Charly Bliss, Young Enough. Not as much of a power pop thrill as their first record but that's more a statement about how good they were out of the chute than this one. The sole caveat for some is the singer's raspy little girl voice. I think it's an asset but some might find it annoying.

Interesting/obscure fact I just learned after visiting the Stax museum in Memphis. "Disco Duck" was released on the Fretone label, which was founded by Estelle Axton, who had been a co-founder of Stax with her brother Jim Stewart (Stax = STewart + AXton).

So you're saying "Disco Duck" is legit?

Girl Monster!, a 3-disc compilation of outre music by women artists curated by Chicks on Speed. Just discovered it and, thus far, it's nicely varied.
