Yeah they've been solid maybe just a return to their earlier energy. But I agree I've not heard a bad record by them.WestwayKid wrote: ↑28 Feb 2023, 6:03pmNo dip at all (in my opinion). You're spot on about the return to their earlier energy. I think having some "younger" members has helped in that front.Marky Dread wrote: ↑28 Feb 2023, 6:08pmYeah they've been solid maybe just a return to their earlier energy. Killing Joke in dub rewind vol 2.
A new release and very nice, if you like that sort of thing.

At last a song that sounds like The The should sound like. Excellent.

The lyrics aren't subtle, but whatever, getting Matt Johnson's voice back with us feels really good. I forget how much I love The The until I hear, well, anything by him/them.Marky Dread wrote: ↑02 Mar 2023, 7:58pmAt last a song that sounds like The The should sound like. Excellent.

Yeah obviously those lyrics not designed with subtlety in mind. But this really feels like a The The song. Like you I forget just how much I really dig Matt's voice/sound. Can't wait for a new album. Too many soundtracks when a new full album is what I'm begging for.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑02 Mar 2023, 8:18pmThe lyrics aren't subtle, but whatever, getting Matt Johnson's voice back with us feels really good. Re: What Are you Listening to Right Now?
What I really want to hear is the unreleased Gun Sluts album that his record company said was too abrasive or somesuch to market. The title song is the only thing that's emerged, and it's a pretty cool, slightly funky instrumental.Marky Dread wrote: ↑03 Mar 2023, 8:21amYeah obviously those lyrics not designed with subtlety in mind. There are a few unreleased albums I think. Like The Pornography of Despair album. Maybe we'll get a box set of unreleased stuff. Maybe not.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑03 Mar 2023, 8:40amWhat I really want to hear is the unreleased Gun Sluts album that his record company said was too abrasive or somesuch to market. I've downloaded a few attempts at creating PoD. And I just found on SoulSeek some demos for Gun Sluts. So that's what I'll be listening to on my walk to work!Marky Dread wrote: ↑03 Mar 2023, 8:57amThere are a few unreleased albums I think. Like The Pornography of Despair album. Also, after almost losing the dvd of The The Vs. The World, I uploaded it for safe keeping, so here's the link for that, too: https://mega.nz/folder/cItTjCyQ#CBphccZwNkAHcMpiDW-r5g

Re: What Are you Listening to Right Now?
Listened to the Gun Sluts demos and understand why Sony balked. MJ seemed on the cusp of being marketable after Mind Bomb and Dusk, then he does that weirdo Hank Williams cover record, and then he submits these squawking, tuneless jams. Not what Sony would have been looking for. Sonic Youth was making bank at the same time with this kind of stuff, but that wasn’t the image The The had in the biz. But I seriously loved these demos. A lot of nasty fucking around going on.
