Jesus Christ, the drums on those 69-70 live Suspicious Minds are fangoriously awesome.

Also, my phone apparently autocorrects to "fangoriously" on its own.

I'm gonna modify my previous statement: No offense to D.J. Fontana (the non-Olaf one), but RONNIE MOTHERFUCKING TUTT. JESUS.

I would say there are only a handful of non-live Elvis LPs that are consistent throughout (he was at his best in the early years as a singles artist), but this is definitely one of the best.

Oh, and the Legacy version adds a bunch of great singles from the era, and another, lesser-but-still-decent album (Something for Everybody).

Did I mention I was making this Elvis Month? I'm making this Elvis Month.

Also, this is right AFTER he got back from the army, and works as a seriously triumphant return.

There are certainly some overlooked gems on that record. Thrill Of Your Love or Like A Baby come to mind.

I think I'll dedicate the 5th week of ELVIS MONTH to the movies.

Fuck, I'm still trying to forget them. ;)

Every weekday morning in the summer holidays they used to have an Elvis film, straight after Flash Gordon. The Limeys must remember.

Jailhouse Rock is a lot of fun.

I like that one, too. Everything after that is pretty much unwatchable up to, say, Charro.

The one that always sticks in my mind is "Fun in Acapulco."

Around '72, Presley was trying to get a serious Bruce Lee style action film produced, to prove his acting chops and give himself a vehicle to show off his karate. That could have been wretched good fun.

Could have kept him fit too.
