I like it. Their last useful album, as well, I think.

The Fall, "Petty Thief Lout." A b-side that's not even very good, but the damned thing's been playing in my brain all morning.
I never get bored of The Fall always another song to find some worth in.

Yeah, on paper it seems obvious that I should be into them, but they just haven't hit me the right way yet. Part of it may be that I don't dig the vocals a whole lot.

Still. like the Jesus and Mary Chain if they'd been geeked on the Shirelles and Ronnettes instead of the Velvet Underground and the Stooges.

MES is like Dylan—you either dig the voice or you don't, and if you don't you're not going any further.

The Ziporyn take on Warszawa. Didn't think a 19-or-so-minute orchestral piece packed with repetitions could ear-worm me like this, but - because it's Warszawa, it has done.

Terrible advice is how you appreciate The Fall, there is no other way. Mark's vocals are such a huge play with Fall material. You could never separate the music from his vocal.

So addictive.

Fast 'n' bulbous.

I like early nasal Dylan, but not later cigarette Dylan.

Being from, er, "Glasvegas" , I find them a bit of an embarrassment. I'd say I was proud to share a town with the J&MC, but they're technically EK folks.

Anyhow: Always Crashing in the Same Car this morning.

Then stick to 20th-century Fall, as MES, too, has developed an old drunk growl the past ten years. See, Marky and I are helping!

(More seriously, the A458489 compilation covers the singles at the band's most accessible period. It's the best means of acculturating yourself to MES' voice.)
