Heston and Marky's Friday Top 5

Post by Heston »

Okay, this is the first in an ongoing series of Friday list threads. It's simple, name your top 5 songs of the band listed. The inaugural week will start with...

Madness.

There's a tiny, tiny hopeful part of me that says you guys are running a Kaufmanesque long con on the board

The Sun and the Rain is sublime, but why the love for Suggs' B&B Man?

Foreman's vocals feel like a bit of a send up. I know you've cited them as something you liked in the past, but they don't quite do it for me.

He should have been their lead singer if you ask me.

Suggs doesn't take the role seriously enough, but he is the voice of Madness, as far as I'm concerned. And he's not a traditionally good singer, but he's definitely got a great quality to it. Or at least he did as late as '99.

Yeah, I love Suggs, just pondering on alternate universes.

Really? The entire discography is on Spotify, so I can get some homework done for it, if you like. What years get the unmitigated Heston seal of approval?

I've just started playing 'Crazy Crazy Nights' which isn't that bad. It's a little like a dumber Cheap Trick.

Never was a huge fan, but my number one is the song "Madness" for sure. And whenever I go to House of Pies on Vermont, I always sing "welcome to the house of pies...."
We reach the parts other combos cannot reach
We beach the beachheads other armies cannot beach
We speak the tongues other mouths cannot speak

Avoid anything from 1980 onward except 'God Gave Rock and Roll to You'. The aforementioned 'Crazy Crazy Nights' is forgivable, they never got more Slade-like, but 80s KISS is generally best avoided. I'd advise any potential KISS fan to jump in with 'Greatest Kiss' or the full Destroyer album.

The Cheap Trick comment isn't far off the mark. I know I get ridicule from the Yanks, but I think they take KISS for granted, prophets without honour etc.

Wolter and Doc both love "Shandi", that's a song worth checking out.

You deserve a universe of pain. One day I hope to deliver a fraction of that.

Anyway:
Embarrassment
The Prince
Madness
Our House
