That’s the right attitude. It’s a weird sort of thing to gatekeep against people either too young or geographically distant to be part of a scene when it formed. And honestly, I guarantee a lot of people who were there at the start of any scene only started caring after the fact. Like the way every fucking Boomer on earth either went to, or almost went to, Woodstock.Marky Dread wrote: ↑11 May 2019, 11:04amThis is exactly the bullshit I have come across with regards to punk. People have read a few books on the subject and then tell you exactly what went down. I lived through those years genuinely and they were not pleasant at times. But just because I was fortunate enough to see most of the major players and buy the music first time out doesn't give me any bullshit bragging rights over anybody. Sure experiencing things first hand gives you a feel for the period but that's it. Anybody of any age that tells me they like the music that I like makes me just wanna start up discussion and pass on as much music as possible. When I bought all the Clash stuff on CD for the first time I was walking home from town and bumped into a guy who had just moved in down the street he was maybe 10 years younger than me. He asked what I'd been buying so I showed him the Clash CDs he said he had a compilation tape of The Clash and loved it. Later that evening I knocked on his front door and gave him the first 5 albums on vinyl. This is a guy who I'd known for about 10 mins and didn't even know his name at the time. He was blown away and we chatted often about The Clash and punk in general and I was able to turn him onto The Stooges and tons of other cool stuff. I just saw it as handing on the baton.

Really good album I can't believe it beat The Stooges by nearly two years. Not that I think it's better than ''The Stooges'' but that someone else was playing that stuff.revbob wrote: ↑16 May 2019, 5:11pmI like this choice!Marky Dread wrote: ↑16 May 2019, 2:50pmTop 5 UK Proto-punk albums.

Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

I don't know enough about his solo catalogue to have a top 5, but, coincidentally, VH, VH, jr. and I are seeing the Who tonight!

Clearly, any five songs from Psychderelict.
