two CCR top 5's were offered up by Tep and Matey but were done OUTSIDE THE BOUNDARIES OF THE GAME. They weren't in reply to an official TOP 5 BAND

Fun fact: Kenny Inouye of Marginal Man was, in fact, a senator's son. But the Vietnam War was over, so John Fogerty probably wouldn't have cared.

I'm late to the game - but was out of town all weekend...

I want to add that CCR are one of the greatest American bands of all time - a fantastic body of work - except for maybe Mardi Gras where John Fogerty called the rest of the band's bluff and let them contribute.

1) Who'll Stop the Rain
2) Born on the Bayou
3) Green River
4) Lodi
5) Bad Moon Rising

CCR had some storming covers, too.

Good Golly Miss Molly
Heard it Through the Grapevine
Born on the Bayou
Cotton Fields
Green River
Their cover of Grapevine is fantastic. Actually - it's more than fantastic. Marvin's original is an incredible performance - but CCR comes close. That groove they lock into is hypnotic. I've always cast a sideways glance at most West Coast Boomer Rock - but the idea of CCR has always appealed to me: 4 white dudes from Frisco playing this basic - yet catchy - rock and roll during the hippy era. It feels "real" and has aged far better than stuff like the Dead or the Airplane. The Band holds the same appeal to me. Their cover of Marvin Gaye's "Baby Don't You Do It" is as good as CCR's cover of Grapevine.

So no Top 5 this week? Oh, the humanity...
If WestwayKid or anyone else don't step up in the next few minutes I'm a gonna lay one on youse (one that might have broad appeal with the added caveat of being relatively unknown and therefore surprising).

Yeah you're the one person I knew here who digs them. Only two albums, an EP, and a scorching live album later (King Biscuit), I say they had a perfect lil' catalogue. Not one weak track, every one's a punchy delight (even though the second album is rather darker and has that big Brit production courtesy of Hugh Padgham, who worked with pretty much everybody in the '80's and is largely responsible for the big, dumb drum sound on many albums).
