Someone please explain pub rock to this American. I feel like I maybe understand what it was (and looking at the songs chosen so far - I definitely get an idea) - but looking for a solid description of what it was and what defined it.

Re: Heston and Marky's Friday Top 5
Bands that mostly played pub venues that were going against the grain on the Glam rock groups of the era. Playing slighy sped up versions of old standards and R n B covers with their own material thrown in some of the bands went for a American West coast sounds but the better ones like the 101ers went for a gritty R n B sound. The precursor to punk rock. 1972 - 1976 and some carried on beyond these dates moving more into a New Wave style.WestwayKid wrote: ↑30 May 2019, 11:09amSomeone please explain pub rock to this American. I didn't even get into many obscure bands, just other great early singles from the usual gang. A richer genre than usually given credit for.
