Christ, what a goddamn Hoy.

Hoy, there's a VU version on the box set without Bowie.
Not sure if I gave this a spin before, but just listened. It's fine. Less Bowie and sounds very much like a Loaded track. Still not a top Lou tune for me I guess.
Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

[on the phone, as Marty plays "Nookie"] Fred! Fred, it's Hoy. Your cousin, Hoy Durst. You know that new sound you're looking for? Well, listen to this!

Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a bowl of soup
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a rolling hoop
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a ton of lead
Wiggle - you can raise the dead

Wife breast feeding at 1am: why are you laughing?
Me: well…you see…well uh, on the Clash board…you know how they call me Hoy?
Wife: it’s okay, don’t tell me.

I was trying to see if I had complained about Bowie’s vocals in Satellite before and i apparently did nine years ago.

Crazy that the pre Crash period is two years for me vs post Crash which is now 13 years. I don’t feel like I lost that much anymore. Particularly with how much dumber I was in those days.

You'll be amazed at how dumb you'll become when your kids hit adolescence.

(BTW, I agree with you re. the mix on "Satellite of Love." That Bowie sounds so much louder than everything else is a distraction to the piece as a whole.)

Bowie just had a much better vocal range than Lou. Lou has said as much stating Bowie's ear for melody being "fabulous". Also I'm sure it's Mick Ronson on the backing vocals. Fine if people prefer the original VU take for "Loaded" but with the remake they were going for airplay.

The ahhh-ooooooo! part isn't Bowie? Okay, Ronson is too loud.

Ronson actually does sound a bit like Bowie. Easy mistake.

Wikipedia cites a quote from Lou Reed talking about Bowie doing the vocals on that part, but whatever, too loud/distinct.
