The single version of V13 would be my number 1. The album version was a slight disappointment.
I'm always torn between the two versions. I like the quaintness of the original and the oomph of the remake. My favourite version is the live at Bradford rendition in 1988, it's just superb.

The top four slots are non-negotiable.

This album has some of my absolutely favorite BAD songs and then a handful of absolutely forgettable songs.

Strummer said his main contribution as producer was to turn the drum machine off so the songs wouldn't go on forever

I can dig the lengthy codas on the first album as interesting shit was happening. It was Megatop when it got a bit too much, it seemed like 8 repeats of the chorus at the end of every song.

Wolston Manor reopens for business.

Those first four tracks just jump out to me as classics, the rest a bit ho-hum. I have to admit I was disappointed when I bought it at the time. Maybe I'd set my hopes too high after the debut but I feel that album was a missed opportunity for them. I know I may be in the minority but I think Tighten Up is a better album.

I’m not the biggest BAD fan but agree the first 4 pick themselves but after that can leave it.

I don't want to sound like I'm too down on the album, I can still happily listen to it. This is all relative.

Refuse to believe Strummer did not contribute lyrics to Sambradrome, HB and Dial a Hitman. Still believe it is likely Strummer or Tony James or someone contributed significantly lyrically to This Is BAD as well. I've never seen a band drop off lyrically from albums 1 - 2 to every album thereafter the way BAD did.

Yeah. My biggest problem with BAD is that they very much needed editing as time went on. Repetitive dance floor beats are a lot less fun when you’re not on the dance floor.

Don is on record as writing the lyrics for E=MC2 so maybe his lyrical prowess is underestimated. I don't believe Joe had anything to do with the first album lyrically. The one connection is the Bottom Line (Trans Cash Fee Pay One) but that was a totally different set of lyrics that Joe wrote for it. Robin Banks now gets a lyrical credit for The Bottom Line so there was some outside help there. Somtimes bands just lose inspiration and have to meet deadlines, hence the lyrical drop off. Mick had three years to write the first BAD album, and had a lot to prove.

I think it's a fine album and I enjoy it regularly. No poor tracks on it with obviously some fantastic tracks.
