1. Big A, Little A
2. Bloody Revolutions
3. Rival Tribal Rebel Revel
4. Major General Despair
5. Do They Owe Us a Living?
I do not understand the "theme" of this week's lists so I cannot add anything. Crass? Me no comprendo.
Top 5 songs by the anarchist punk band called Crass.
Maybe you haven't heard of Crass. Normal service resumed next week.
This has always been a Clash board.

I remember buying the album that came in the black box when it came out and playing it quite a bit, but the only track i can recall is Big A, Little A. Really good track, tuneful, almost catchy even!

The greatest of all anarcho-punk bands, which puts them in the running for best band of all time.
I saw Crass live at Reading town hall. I was impressed by their message and they came across better as an information band than a musical one. Reading had it's own anarcho-punk band that had been going a couple of years before Crass called Zounds they released stuff on Crass Records and were musically far superior.

I had a Zounds album for a while, but I think I traded it for some jazz or something. Still have all my Crass though! I like abrasion.

I have plenty of abrasive sounding stuff but prefer the recording and production to sound better than Crass. Of course this simply isn't the point with Crass in the first place though I see all the albums have now been remastered.

For those who don't care for CRASS'S musical approach.

Black box makes me think of Christ, but based on the song selection it sounds like you're talking about Best Before.

No you are correct first time Kory. "Big A, Little A" was on Christ - The Album / Well Forked - But Not Dead.

Oh right. Now THAT'S the disc where the sound quality turns me away usually.

Ah, OK, thank you for the clarification. No, i've never heard of them until this post. I will check out what I can find. Weird that i've never heard of them at all, anywhere else ever, in all my years.

Crass is one of my all time favorite bands. Politically, aesthetically, culturally. An incredible, inspiring attempt at living a set of values that was destined for compromise and failure but produced wonderful art in the process.
Getting to a top 5 is going to require some thought.
1. Big A, Little A
2. Bloody Revolutions
3. Rival Tribal Rebel Revel
4. Major General Despair
