Brian looks like he's about to go out and scalp Beach Boys tix.

A friend introduced me to Brian's "Smart Girls" yesterday. I'm torn between thinking it unbelievably awful and somehow kinda good. Either way, it's 100% loco.

There's a new book on the Manson thing called Chaos that seems to be getting a lot of attention because the author unearthed a lot of documents that prove that Bugliosi's whole narrative was entirely imaginary and that he may actually have suborned perjury during the trials. It also goes into the connections with Dennis Wilson and Terry Melcher, who apparently were sharing some of Manson's very young followers. Apparently the story about Manson sending a message to Melcher was bullshit and that Melcher had been seen at Spahn Ranch after the murders. The author doesn't really advance any definitive theories about what went down but the gist of it seems to be that Bugliosi was protecting a lot of people who were being serviced by Charlie's harem.

Thought it was interesting timing, what with Mike Love murdering whatever's left of his legacy.

Wasn't sure where to put this - but just read of the sudden passing of Nick "Nicky Wonder" Walusko - longtime guitarist in Brian's backing band (since 1999). Nicky and his band - The Wondermints - were instrumental (no pun intended) in getting Brian's solo career off and running. Nicky always seemed like a cool guy - just doing enough that you noticed him, but never coming across as obnoxious. He just always seemed cool and he had the musical chops to back it up.

Great BB harmonies, really weak lead vocals. Someone should have doubled him up. Sort of a half written song but still: those harmonies.

Beachago!

There were actually plans to release a live album in 1975. This never happened and the tapes were thought to have been lost in the fire that destroyed Caribou Ranch. Producer Jim Guercio later found a copy...so who knows...maybe one day this will still hit the shelves.

Yeah, those harmonies are killer. I'd love to hear that Beachago stuff. Maybe there's material in the vaults uniformly better than what's been circulating live and such. One can dream...

I want Mike Love to get angry and confused and call his lawyers.
