new green day album.... sounds like MAG 7!!!!!!

Post by VLADI »

Green Day has just released the album artwork and trailer for the first album, ¡Uno!, from their upcoming trilogy.

I don`t know you, but for me this sounds like magnificent seven and guns of Brixton!!!!!

Maybe this trilogy is his Sandinista :scared:

I agree. Not an outright steal, but rather intensive borrowing …

Like, do their fans even know? It's like they just barely cross over the line of plagiarism but casually play it off so well they you could almost never tell.

For what it's worth, Green Day will probably make it catchier.
Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

What do we have for entertainment?
Hoy says Green Day's derivative of Pavement
We reach the parts other combos cannot reach
We beach the beachheads other armies cannot beach
We speak the tongues other mouths cannot speak

We know you listen to bad music, Hoy. You don't have to sing it all the time.

Poor ol' confused Hoy would say that, wouldn't he?

Because, of course, the proper expression is: Derivative of Parliament

I think it's disingenuous of Clash fans to fault Green Day for lifting from Mag 7 since Mag 7 sounds suspiciously like Another One Bites the Dust.

I'm not hearing the similarities at all. Now, if we want to talk about how much they liked The Who's "I Can't Explain" …

It's disingenuous of Queen fans to fault the Clash for lifting from Another One Bites the Dust, since that song's bassline comes straight from Good Times by Chic.

Which gets to my ultimate point that all rock music is somewhat derivative of something.

The true creators in this story, of course, being the Sugarhill Gang, whose bassline was stolen by the honkies in Chic.
