English people are not as obsessed with this song as you seem to think.
Counterpoint: Heston represents all English people.
Yes exactly. Guilty by association and tarnished with the same brush. Thanks.
You're what we bigots call "one of the good ones."

I guess it's all bitter sweet.

The English have a weird obsession with this song.
Few things have better captured the divide between the Limeys and everyone else here than the interpretations of this song's value. Weirder still is that, as I recall, the interpretations of it being monotonous and a slog aren't really in dispute—the Limeys just thing that's an asset.

edit: Note: Marky's a good 'un.
I don't hate or even dislike this song but is it really worth all the fuss?
Take that up with your countrymen.

I only hate it because it’s so dull and was forced down my throat on modern rock radio for a few months in like 1997.
Why when you seem to be doing a good enough job. Like others have said it was a hit worldwide. English people are not as obsessed with this song as you seem to think.

Anyway it just a song and holds no special place for me. So like I said I can't really see what all the fuss is about.
It’s like I said if you are part of what is happening (a time and place) a song holds far greater significance otherwise it is just another song.

Well i was here all through Britpop but to me there were many better bands than The Verve and many better songs I enjoy than BSS. Any number of songs by Supergrass or Suede are better for me. It's just preference but a lot of people just follow like sheep whatever the music mags tell them is great

So, like "World in Motion"? I'm good with placing those two songs in the same stinky sock. ;)

But if you were there and were into the band /song it would have a long term hold on you with the added nostalgia etc..
I’m not a fan of Wonderwall as a song but when I hear it it brings back good memories.

On the other hand, it was out before I was born and from the moment I heard it, knew it was a classic.

It was way better than Embrace's World at your Feet in 2006. May just be relevant to Brits.

Sure I get that. Most music I listen to is years old. I just don't think the song is as great as all the hype.
