Me and the wife had Highway 61 Revisited playing over morning coffee and when the title track played, she said

"What's this song about?"
"I... don't know."
extremely abbreviated summary, highway 61 is america's blues highway and the song reflects both the journey of the american music form and that of the traveling musician (and dylan, specifically) as they're changed by the changing american landscape. there's a whole morality tale layered on too, what drives man to commit injustices, and how our views on that change just as our cultural norms change as we continue our journey on highway 61.

Something like that, anyways.
You get way more kicks on route 66. ;)

Bob Dylan has sold his entire catalog to UMI. Financials were not revealed, but the value had been estimated to be around $300 mil.
Huh, you think it's funny
Turning well-phrased gibberish into money.
Son, take the rest of the day off. You've earned it.

Funny, last week I did a lecture on bootlegs. The first acknowledged rock bootleg was Dylan's Great White Wonder. At the time, its appeal was, in part, because he'd just released Nashville Skyline, and fans longed for the early Dylan, with its morally clear lyrics, especially in the confusion of the late 60s. I didn't say it aloud, but I thought, when the hell was Dylan clear?
Judas!

I love that moment. It's the perfect encapsulation of what's awful about fans.

Yeah it's a brilliant document of that particular fan not willing to accept change.

That's the one where the biblical people have a hard time communicating. A lot of "huhs?" and "whats?" And a really really loud slide whistle.
Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

CD mate. I don't buy too much vinyl these days unless it's something I want that's a vinyl only release. That's basically for durability and storage reasons.

Any thoughts on '1970'? It says there are tracks from the 'Self Portrait' sessions, but surely the best from that time were on 'Another Self Portrait'? Is it worth buying for nine George Harrison tracks that were never intended for release?

I've heard most of the Harrison tracks and they're fun but slight, fans who know this material a bit better are excited about all the non-harrison stuff though. I love dylan's voice in those 1970 sessions so I'm excited for this, but it's definitely completest territory. There's a reason none of this is being released under the bootleg series banner.
