Care to guess what McCartney's favourite Dylan song is? You won't be shocked!

Heh. It's very dorky and on brand for him, but it IS a great song. There's Paul McCartney in a nutshell, I suppose.
Paul owns many, many “Best of” cd’s from bands.

It's well established that if The Beatles had carried on, they'd have turned into ELO :shifty:

It's a shame that John didn't live to sneer at Oasis.

I did read this, although I don't remember too many specifics now. Each chapter was a little writeup of a song, as a Dylan fan there were some good picks. The meat was in a couple of chapters that dealt with civil rights and black identity as thru lines as I recall. The upshot was that it featured fewer of Marcus's silly tendencies to hyperbole, but given that I'm struggling to recall the book now maybe that all made it ultimately less memorable.
“As I traveled, I came to believe that people’s desires and aspirations were as much a part of the land as the wind, solitary animals, and the bright fields of stone and tundra. And, too, that the land existed quite apart from these.”

I’ve probably asked you before, but have you read his book about Dylan, the Band, and the Basement Tapes? There were good ideas in there—that is, stuff worth discussing—but too much of GM’s irritating tics.

Yeah, I read it back in college. I remember really liking it then, probably read it at just the right time in my life, but I don't think I've revisited it since. Kind of one of those things where I'm sort of curious to re-read but I'm pretty sure I'll be much more critical of it or annoyed and I kind of enjoy my current fond memories of the book.

I used it in a seminar once and it went over like one of Hoy's in an elevator. People read it very literally, as pure narrative, and so missed what he was suggesting about the dark side of folk music.
