I once did the scoring on the darts before The Fall played a gig at Fat Sam's, Dundee, mid-80s. "Can You drum?" asked Mark when he realised I could count to four. "Fuck off," said their drummer at the time.

A wrestling referee should've been Fall drummer.

What a strange thing to get upset about. Brix, Stephen Hanley, and maybe other Fall survivors have performed as Brix Smith and the Extricated, so how is this any different?

Dumber still, does anyone think MES would give a fuck? He'd make caustic comments to the press because that was his schtick, but I can't imagine him being genuinely offended by ex-bandmates doing something without him and playing off the Fall name. He'd cackle and deliver some snark.

Yeah, there's nothing wrong with this. It's not like they're calling themselves "Mark E. Smith's The Fall" or something.

That was my thought when I missed them at the Clapham Grand last Friday. I'll just wait til they tour their new album next month.

Something I just discovered. Haven't watched it so I can't speak to its quality. It really is strange that I wouldn't call myself a huge Fall fan—more than most, of course, but far from obsessive in the way Fall fans are—but I miss that miserable fucker. In a bizarre second-hand smoke way, maybe this is akin to all those people who were in the band, were sent packing by him, then came back for another go 'round.

House of All, made up of mostly Fall members from most people's favourite period:

I enjoy very much that these people are (a) still making music together and (b) that they're invoking the band's name (there's also been The Fallen and Brix & the Extricated). It both stakes their claim that they were important to the band—it wasn't just MES plus various grannies on bongos—and it'd piss off/amuse MES that they're still trading on his name and rep.
