Crazy Train is a classic rock radio staple, but god damn is it a great song. My covers band plays it and it's a ton of fun for me. Mostly because of my beloved 16th note hihats on the verses.Silent Majority wrote:I put that Changes song that Ozzy and Kelly Osbourne did which got to number one, to see if I could get any "so bad its good" fun out of it, but Crazy Train was sitting right there in the related videos, so a few sentimental piano chords played before I switched it on up.
Desert Island Discs
Re: Desert Island Discs
Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

I was talking about lynchings. What kind of crazy parades do you go to?Wolter wrote:You need to come to better lynchings.Dr. Medulla wrote:For the most part, it depends on whether candy is thrown at bystanders.Wolter wrote:There's a fine line between "parade" and "lynch mob."Flex wrote:I think OG Sabbath rules AND I think Changes is pretty aiight. Crazy Train is great. Maybe the best "Heavy Rock" song ever in my book.

Billy Connolly. Connolly is a magnificent presence. The first comedian I ever loved. This interview centers far too long and uncomfortably on the abuse he suffered as a child. He's got great taste in music, mostly folk music and early rock 'n' roll. http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/features/de ... y/a8162b65
Spike Milligan. Genius. Rips the piss out of the show and the format. Music taste has nothing to do with me. http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/features/de ... f#p009mz1j
Elia Kazan. Famed grass, namer of names. A practical seeming man, bored of talking about Marlon Brando. Two of his picks were themes from his own films. Didn't come out of this loving the guy. http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/features/de ... 9#p009mxtm

If you put his picks 1,2,4 into a melting pot you have Madness.Silent Majority wrote:Good stuff, all of it.101Walterton wrote:What songs did Suggs pick?Silent Majority wrote:Roald Dahl. I haven't read him in years, but he's still a massive writer to me. All classical music, and from the same three composers. I kind of judge people who don't like any pop music at all. Turns out he invented the word 'gremlin.'
Suggs. Childhood hero. Extremely similar to my own tastes. The Clash, Ian Dury, Prince Buster, Van Morrison, the Kinks.
I'd have to get to Matey eventually, and I'm not being associated with anything that's got a Clarence Clemens sax solo on it.Marky Dread wrote:How about a podcast with IMCT members DID's.

Shame Anthony Newley didn't pick an early Bowie song.
