Desert Island Discs

Post by Silent Majority »

Officially obsessed with the archives to this show now. We've done the Clash, so let's leave them out. What seven songs, Clash aside, would you take with you to a desert island? I'm going to give myself a little time to think about it.

OK here goes : No Clash then.

I Am The Walrus - The Beatles
God Save The Queen - Sex Pistols
20th Century Boy - T.Rex
Do You Remember Rock 'n' Roll Radio? - Ramones
See Emily Play - Pink Floyd
Life On Mars - David Bowie
Rave On - Buddy Holly

Smuggled in my socks :

Dead End Street - The Kinks
Towers of London - XTC
Be My Baby - The Ronettes
Answering Machine - The Replacements
Shot By Both Sides - Magazine
Ghost Town - The Specials
Gimme Danger - Iggy & the Stooges
Department S - Is Vic There?
Public Image - PiL

I would listen to these tracks then build a boat out of fallen trees and get off the fucking boring island asap.

Shake Some Action - The Flamin' Groovies
Soul Brother Clifford - The Equals
Summer's Cauldron - XTC
E=mc2 - BAD
Dancing Queen - Abba
You Got It - Roy Orbison
Waterloo Sunset - The Kinks

Those are seven songs I never tire of hearing, even though they've had very heavy airplay from me over the years. I think it's important to have stuff you wouldn't get sick of.
There's a tiny, tiny hopeful part of me that says you guys are running a Kaufmanesque long con on the board

Two things:

1) Glad you're still alive, Inder.
2) We can hang out listening to "A Question of Degree" on the island until I crush your skull with a rock because the demons tell me to.

Tube Station - The Jam
Albion - Babyshambles
Disappear - Madness
Liquidator - Harry J All Stars
Drive In Saturday - Bowie
The Boy Looked At Johnny - Libertines
West One - The Ruts

I tried not to pick songs already selected although may have been on my list otherwise (GSTQ, PIL, Life On Mars....)

Still happy with my original list.

You should've chose them anyway as they are personal to you. I should've picked "Rude Boys" by The Ruts. :disshame:

Mostly single oriented:

Do You Wanna Dance - The Beach Boys
Stand Up - Eric Donaldson
Yalla Yalla - Joe Strummer and the Mescaleros
Walk With Love - The Maytals
Come On, Let's Go - Ritchie Valens
Rock and Roll - The Velvet Underground (Almost went with Sister Ray because of its length, and I Found a Reason because of its optimistic message)
A Quick One, While He's Away - The Who (medley, so more music to pick from)

Alternate, artist oriented:

Downtown Train - Tom Waits
The Smithsonian Institute Blues (or The Big Dig) - Captain Beefheart and the Magic Band
Autumn's Child - Captain Beefheart and the Magic Band
Moonlight on Vermont - Captain Beefheart and the Magic Band
This is the Day - Captain Beefheart and the Magic Band
Rock and Roll Suicide - David Bowie
Born For Me - Paul Westerberg
