North East Calling Punk Festival 30/08/2014

Post by Antiwar »

Our favourite one-day punk festival North-East Calling (formerly Durham Punk Festival) is back with a new venue, the University of Northumbria on Saturday 30th August with another great line-up. Not only that but it's a lovely venue, more akin to the venue at Durham, so cheap beer, top acoustics, a beer garden and good cheap food on the premises.

Early bird tickets are £24 and available from: http://www.gigbox.co.uk

I'm good mates with Crashed Out, great live band. The Upstarts have also been getting rave reviews for their recent gigs. I'll hopefully be able to make it for this one now that it's nearer to home for me.
There's a tiny, tiny hopeful part of me that says you guys are running a Kaufmanesque long con on the board

And with that, Heston rekindles his interest in the Great Big Hair back catalogue...

They make The Exploited sound like Discharge.

Bands of their ilk are discharge as far as I'm concerned.

Hey, at least I can hum "Ooh To Be Ah."

I like a bit of good punk, but GBH just sound like tuneless noise to me.

You say that like it's a bad thing.

I know I've mentioned this before, but when my high school graduating class voted on our theme song, and all the options were sentimental pop garbage, I wrote in "City Baby Attacked By Rats." I was so dangerous to the system.

Don't get me wrong, I'm a man who's paid to see Motorhead in the past, but that "Class of 82" punk stuff did nothing for me.

How could they, with Music From "The Elder" in permanent rotation on your turntable?

Exactly. It was on a different sonic and poetic level.

Full disclosure: I don't dislike GBH, but I almost never feel the need to listen to them. Although I do like the song City Baby.

The Exploited are far better.
