The GREAT Clash SURVIVOR Poll of 2019: RESULTS

Post by Flex »

Thought it might be a good idea to have a thread where results can be posted for those curious how the madness went down. I'll update with a new post after every round closes.

ROUND 1

The Clash, Side 1

In a clear case of VOTER FRAUD this poll seems to have been fucked up and no votes remain. However, DENY was eliminated this round.

Give 'Em Enough Rope, Side 1

Julie's Been Working for the Drug Squad OUT with 13 votes.

Last Gang in Town received 10 votes and Safe European Home, English Civil War and Tommy Gun all received 1 vote.

London Calling, Side 1

Jimmy Jazz OUT with 11 votes.

Hateful received 6 votes, Brand New Cadillac received 5 votes, and London Calling and Rudie Can't Fail each received 2 votes.

Sandinista!, Side 1

Ivan Meets G.I. Joe OUT with 14 votes.

Hitsville UK received 7 votes, Something About England received 3 votes and The Magnificent Seven and Junco partner received 1 vote a piece.

Combat Rock, Side 1

Red Angel Dragnet OUT with 18 votes.

Know Your Rights, Car Jamming, Should I Stay or Should I Go and Straight to Hell each received 2 votes.

Cut the Crap, Side 1

Dictator OUT with 7 votes.

Cool Under Heat received 5 votes, We Are The Clash received 4 votes, Dirty Punk and Movers and Shakers each received 3 votes, and Are You Red..Y received 2 votes.

Non-Album Tracks, Part 1

Listen OUT with 11 votes.

1-2 Crush on You and (White Man) In Hammermsith Palais received 2 votes. 1977, Capital Radio Two and Clash City Rockers received 1 vote a piece.

Non-Album Tracks, Part 2

Rockers Galore...UK Tour OUT with 22 votes

City of the Dead received 2 votes and Groovy Times, Jail Guitar Doors, Justice Tonight/Kick it Over and Pressure Drop each received 1 vote.

Non-Album Tracks, Part 3

First Night Back in London OUT with 6 votes.

A veritable bloodbath: Cool Confusion received 5 votes, Every Little Bit Hurts received 3 votes, Stop the World, Time is Tight, This is Radio Clash and Midnight to Stevens all received 2 votes, and Long Time Jerk got 1 vote too.

Non-Album Tracks, Part 4

Sex Mad Roar OUT with 16 votes, Mustapha Dance (which received 5 votes) regrouped with Non-Album Tracks, Part 3 for Round 2

EDIT: Added additional vote results. If a song isn't listed, it received no votes.

It was the weakest track out of a bunch of good ones.

Also, it’s not that great.

Admittedly that poll probably had the most consistent list of good songs out of all the polls but RG is better than City Of The Dead plus RG is great.

Rocker's Galore is both worse than just about every b side that came before it, and better than just about every b side that came after.

RG is the one that’s just Mikey Dread talking over Bankrobber right?
Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

Still grieving over Dictator, hardly the worst song on the side.

Good god, I'm agreeing with you again. City of the Dead is great, a proper song. Whilst I like Mikey's toasting on Living In Fame, Rockers Galore always seemed like a lazy toss off.
There's a tiny, tiny hopeful part of me that says you guys are running a Kaufmanesque long con on the board

ROUND 2

The Clash, Side 1

What's My Name OUT with 7 votes.

Hate & War received 5 votes, Remote Control and London's Burning each received 3 votes, and White Riot received 2 votes.

Give 'Em Enough Rope, Side 1

Last Gang in Town OUT with 19 votes.

English Civil War received 4 votes.

London Calling, Side 1

Brand New Cadillac OUT with 12 votes.

Hateful received 9 votes. London Calling received 2 votes and Rudie Can't Fail recieved 1 vote. Gee, wonder which song is going next round.

Sandinista!, Side 1

Hitsville U.K. OUT with 11 votes.

The Leader received 7 votes, Junco Partner received 4 votes, and Something About England received 1 vote.

Combat Rock, Side 1

Car Jamming OUT with 13 votes.

Know Your Rights received 7 votes, Should I Stay Or Should I Go received 2 votes, and Rock The Casbah got 1 vote from an insane person.

Cut the Crap, Side 1

We Are The Clash OUT with 7 votes.

A crowded field: Cool Under Heat received 4 votes, Dirty Punk and Are You Red..Y received each received 3 votes and Movers and Shakers received 1 vote.

Non-Album Tracks, Part 1

One Emotion OUT with 21 votes.

Who the FUCK cast votes for 1977, 1-2 Crush on You and Capital Radio Two? Each of those received 1 vote a piece.

Non-Album Tracks, Part 2

The City of the Dead OUT with 8 votes.

Groovy Times and Justice Tonight/Kick it over received 4 votes a piece, Jail Guitar Doors received 3 votes, Pressure Drop received 2 votes, and Gates of the West and Bankrobber each received 1 vote. This is a tough bracket, folks.

Non-Album Tracks, Part 3

In a three-way tie, Every Little Bit Hurts, Cool Confusion and Mustapha Dance are all OUT with 5 votes a piece.

Long Time Jerk received 3 votes, Time is Tight received 2 votes and Stop the World and Midnight to Stevens each garnered 1 vote. Another tough bracket, but for very different reasons.

EDIT: Added additional voting results. If a song isn't listed it's because it either received no votes or was already eliminated.
