The one that always resonated with me was "the Twenties turned, the North was dead, the hunger strike came marching South", which was about the Jarrow March. I had a relative who was one of the marchers, and I was born in Jarrow. Not much humour to be found in these situations...

Yep agreed a very grim situation. Another song that sang about their plight was The Chant Has Just Begun by The Alarm.Heston wrote: ↑09 Apr 2019, 2:01amThe one that always resonated with me was "the Twenties turned, the North was dead, the hunger strike came marching South", which was about the Jarrow March. I think lyrically it's solid and the music adds to the air of romanticism and the feeling of loss.Silent Majority wrote: ↑09 Apr 2019, 6:36amThe lyrics to that song are so fucking good.Heston wrote: ↑09 Apr 2019, 2:01amThe one that always resonated with me was "the Twenties turned, the North was dead, the hunger strike came marching South", which was about the Jarrow March. Hopefully the tide is turning and SAE will rightly oust Mag 7.

Mag 7 will always have my loyalty, but enjoying the love for SAE here. It would win for me on at least 3 other sides of S!, just not this one.
Re: ROUND 4 - Sandinista! - Side One
It took me forever to “get” SAE, mostly because I was so put off by Mick’s terrible vocals in the beginning, but it’s probably a top ten Clash tune for me.
Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

Are you referring to that one note (respec....ted) or the vocal in general?

In general but that part in particular.

I think it is fine in general, pretty good in fact. I can see where you're coming from with that note but is in tune, maybe just a bit ambitious.

Re: ROUND 4 - Sandinista! - Side One
I re-listened to S! last night. SAE rates a bit higher than I'd recalled - next round will be interesting, since my beloved Junco Partner seems to be getting the boot - but for me it's that wonky choral stuff towards the end that deflates the song a touch. A lot to think about in the next few hours, song-wise.
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a bowl of soup
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a rolling hoop
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a ton of lead
Wiggle - you can raise the dead
Pex Lives!
