Speaking of reggae, I really enjoyed hitting Sounds of the Universe while I was in London. Picked up a lot of dub gems that are still blowing my mind almost a year later.Marky Dread wrote: ↑13 Apr 2019, 9:08pmI'm winding up my waist as I type.Kory wrote: ↑13 Apr 2019, 9:06pmThis is an auspicious day for me. Yeah that's a great place. I had loads of Soul Jazz comps on vinyl that I've recently sold. Cutting my music collection down in size due to moving. Still got most of the essential stuff on CD though.Kory wrote: ↑13 Apr 2019, 9:25pmSpeaking of reggae, I really enjoyed hitting Sounds of the Universe while I was in London. Jesus is Inoculated City going to win? Ghetto Defendant is so much better.
Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

I might vote to keep IC if it was the superior RPFFB version but as it is, have to have both SF and GD ahead of it.

GD is great but since I found out about the paedo on voice over backing vocals I don't want it to win shit.

Their first coupla albums pretty decent before they went pop.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑14 Apr 2019, 5:49amWhat's your favourite UB40 song?Kory wrote: ↑13 Apr 2019, 9:06pmThis is an auspicious day for me. My reaction to a lot of this stuff is: I'm still guiltlessly enjoying Jerry Lee.

Always felt IC was kind of dull — an inferior Up in Heaven type thing.
Re: ROUND 8 - Combat Rock - Side Two
I've been revisiting Combat Rock/Rat Patrol after reading these threads and thought it was interesting how so many of those tracks are groove/jams that don't really lend themselves to melody — Know Your Rights, Red Angel Dragnet, Atom Tan, Sean Flynn, First Night Back, Cool Confusion etc. That's quite a few numbers that are essentially spoken/chanted/"vocalized" rather than sung. Wonder if you can attribute that to the band's excitement over the NYC rap/hip-hop they soaked in over '81.

I'll use the character clause as a tiebreaker in close calls. I like all three remaining tracks pretty equally, so there's not really a compelling reason to vote for the one with the pedo on it.Silent Majority wrote: ↑14 Apr 2019, 1:56pmMy reaction to a lot of this stuff is: I'm still guiltlessly enjoying Jerry Lee.

This might be heretical. I like Sean Flynn. But it’s kind of meandering and I would never account it among the greatest Clash songs.
