Garageland. Love the song, but have never really been IN love with it, y'know? Police & Thieves vs Career Opportunities would be a hell of a matchup.

Had to go P&T because 1) it is a cover 2) the original is better.

Police and Thieves for me. Might be different if it didn't go on for 6 minutes, but maybe not, the other 2 are. bloody strong songs.

Police and Thieves get a reprieve from me this round because, even though it's a cover, that bassline is hot fire.

The other reason I voted P&T is because the live version on Rude Boy - Directors Cut is so brilliant it blows the album version out of the water!!!

I voted out Garageland. I predicted early doors that Career Opps would win and it will, rightly so.

Career Opps for me. Another song I find overrated many better songs on that first album have bitten the dust.

This is pretty much where I stand. It is a brilliant arrangement with the two syncopated guitars and that nifty bass line though. Man, I'm having second thoughts.
Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

Police & Thieves deserves to kick Career Opprtunities into touch. Such a brilliant reworking of a contemporary song. It's a clear companion piece to White Riot. 1976 a punk band covering reggae was a brave move and set the tone for so many others to follow.

I love every second of P&T. I think it was a monster song for them as far as understanding what they were capable of. It's the pivotal moment in their career IMO.

Right, the fact that it was a contemporary cover adds to its stature, not detracts. It's a real 'reaching across the isle' moment.

Yes! What makes the Clash so special is how they fearlessly explored so many genres of music. Punk was just a starting point and they moved beyond that so quickly and I agree that P&T was indeed a pivotal moment in their history - it was the moment where they saw what they could do.
