Lover’s Rock is stellar.
Before I lob tomatoes and eggs at you, define the word "stellar."
Fine, not stellar, but very enjoyable.
Tomatoes and eggs placed back in their satchel, but my eyebrow is firmly arched.

I like LR, I really like 4H, and I LOVE the rest.

Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

I think LR has to be taken in context (somewhat). I've always felt it wasn't a very serious song - just a rather throwaway bit of genre fun. They sound like they're legit having fun while recording it - tongues firmly in cheek. I could be wrong on this - just the feeling I get from it. That said - it's not a great song and doesn't deserve to go much further than this.

Other than Train in Vain, all the songs on side four are very enjoyable for me, if a notch lower than everything that has preceded it. It doesn't help that I'm usually a little burnt out by the time I get there as well. But yeah, LR, 4H, I'm Not Down, and Rev Rock are really quite enjoyable and I have a hell of a time elevating one over another.

I'm Not Down is a-fucking-stonishing. Four Horsemen is a below par GEER song without even the 100 guitars of hate that cover up some of that album's self mythologising lyrics and aimless arrangements.

I'm Not Down is one of my top 5 Clash songs. It's perfect. And it's the only Clash song that has a halfway decent cover.
