Train In Vain is perfect. I'm Not Down is great but has that stupid bit where it goes to 3/4 time. I thought I had a dodgy copy when I first heard it.
There's a tiny, tiny hopeful part of me that says you guys are running a Kaufmanesque long con on the board

Voting off Train in Vain. Both great pop confections, but as documented last round the lyrics to TiV are a bit suspect these days while I'm Not Down is one of the all-time life affirming songs. It's gotten me through some dark lows in my life, and it's always there for me. Really great stuff.

When people want to cite wimpy Mick songs, the two culprits are always SISOSIG and TIV. Don't support wimpiness.

An I'm Now Down vs Rudie Can't Fail showdown would be wild.

Sorry but what is suspect about the lyrics?Flex wrote: ↑18 Apr 2019, 3:39pmVoting off Train in Vain. TiV. I love it though IND is powerful powerful stuff, one of the best on the album.

Generally, part of a sexist legacy in pop music of blaming the woman for the guy being a shithead, and something that in this particular instance we know is wrong and just Mick feeling sorry for himself.
To be clear, I love the song. I don't want to make too big a thing of it, but it's a solid differentiator between the two cuts imho.

Not exactly 3/4, but the syncopated beat is a bit messy.
Also, isn't 4H on par with I'm Not Down? Why'd it get cut so early?
Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

I'm Not Down is catchier with a better vocal and better lyrics?

I think men and women have given as good as they've got against each other in song over the years. But yeah, best not go there.Flex wrote: ↑18 Apr 2019, 3:56pmGenerally, part of a sexist legacy in pop music of blaming the woman for the guy being a shithead, and something that in this particular instance we know is wrong and just Mick feeling sorry for himself.

But 4H goes into the bridge before even the one minute mark and it goes on forever. It's their "Love In an Elevator."

I don't speak Drummer, but thought it went into a quick 3/4 beat, happy to be corrected.

At 3:05 IND is the 5th shortest song on the album, at 2:55 4H is the 4th. I think both get it just about right on that score.
