It Ain't Easy is a cover version. Always felt a bit out of place on the album to me. But it's a great track and a grower.BitterTom wrote: ↑17 Apr 2020, 5:11pmGot it on now, Five Years is very good, love the chord progression. Nice to hear the bass in there too. Just got to the chorus, spot on. Going on a bit now, screaming perhaps too much.
Soul Love comes on like a fast Stand By Me. Yeah this one doesn't do much for me.
Moonage Day, great opening. Liking this so far. Really enjoying it actually, easily the strongest so far. Yep, spot on.
Starman I already knew and love.
It Ain't Easy is ok, chorus easily preferable to the verses. Again, doesn't do much for me.
Perhaps I need to listen to this side a few times as previously suggested, will give side 2 a go tomorrow.

Funny, it's the opposite for me, always loved the verses but thought the chorus was a bit lacking.
I do think you need to give albums a bit time though, I usually listen to something at least 15/20 times before I can fully take everything in.

I fully agree with this after getting into Megatop Phoenix.

That's a great example of an album that demands repeated listens.BitterTom wrote: ↑17 Apr 2020, 5:18pmI fully agree with this after getting into Megatop Phoenix.

Don’t Stand Me Down - Dexys is an album that took me years to fully appreciate mind you it took Rowland years to make.

I liked that one straight away. But the constant change/shift in musical/fashion direction must of been off putting to a lot of fans. Still the solo albums were yet to come.101Walterton wrote: ↑17 Apr 2020, 5:24pmDon’t Stand Me Down - Dexys is an album that took me years to fully appreciate mind you it took Rowland years to make.

One of my top ten albums of all time is Village Green by the Kinks but I really didn't like it when I first heard it. My mate used to play it and I used to tell him to turn it off as it sounded samey and boring to me. Then I started liking Starstruck...then I fell in love with Animal Farm...then Do You Remember Walter clicked with me...etc...etc.BitterTom wrote: ↑17 Apr 2020, 5:18pmI fully agree with this after getting into Megatop Phoenix.

No, but that's the type of conceptual shit I like.

If you get to a point of really liking Bowie, I guarantee Soul Love will shoot right up for you. You'll be sitting in a pub when it comes on and you'll say "holy shit, you know I actually really really love this song." And so it will be until you die.BitterTom wrote: ↑17 Apr 2020, 5:11pmGot it on now, Five Years is very good, love the chord progression. Nice to hear the bass in there too.
