The Ultimate Women's Album - Side 1 Track 4 Vote - Round 3

Post by Dr. Medulla »

It had to happen! The senses-shattering conclusion of the Side 1, Track 4 Saga between the Swedish pop stars and the Irish folkies! Either way, apparently Heston wins.

But in a very real sense, let’s make Heston lose.

i'm always in favor of extra-diagetic reasons for a vote

Like, in-universe, I prefer the Pogues song. But in a meta-gaming sense, frustrating Heston helps me achieve my ultimate goal: seeing Heston frustrated.

Pretty disappointed with this final two, Is this really the best showcase of female artists.

Both great songs imo.
There's a tiny, tiny hopeful part of me that says you guys are running a Kaufmanesque long con on the board

Quite like the Pogues song but it is just a good version of a traditional song.
ABBA doesn’t do it for me.

The ABBA song is widely recognised as one of the best songs of a legendary band so it may be you who has the issue here!

Concur.

On that note, I went with ABBA on this one.

The Blondie song was a cover too so I dont see why this should be a problem.

Yeah, especially as I'd never heard the original before in both cases. I never knew the Blondie song was a cover until about 12 years ago. And the Pogues cover seems to be some long forgotten traditional pub song.

Yeah, anything where the songwriting credits are “Trad.” is usually down to the artist’s skill at performing and arranging anyway.

SOS is a fine song so on the merits I won't be annoyed or anything if it wins, but I don't think we've ever not collectively regretted letting Heston think he's "won" a poll so I just hope everyone knows what they're getting themselves into here.
