The Ultimate Women's Album - Side 1 Track 6 Nominations

Post by Dr. Medulla »

Well, that ended up being a romp. Althea & Donna cleared 50% with no close competitors, so there is no final two showdown.

Side 1
Blondie, "Hanging On the Telephone"
The Breeders, "Cannonball"
Dusty Springfield, "Son of a Preacher Man"
ABBA, "SOS"
Althea & Donna, "Uptown Top Ranking"

Now, for the last song on Side 1, this gets a little trickier. So as not to disadvantage songs on albums with more than six songs on Side 1, any song on Side 1, Track 6 and up on the vinyl or cassette version is eligible. If there is only a cd version, Track 6 or Tracks 13 and up are eligible. Any bonus tracks (e.g., remixes, extended versions, demos) are not eligible. As always, in cases of dispute, discogs.com is the reference, and I'm the final judge of eligibility. Nominations are open for around 48 hours.

Would never have thought of that - great 90s banger.

That's quite the throwback for me. Haven't heard that one in ages.
Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

Going for a long shot here, but I love Santigold too much not to nominate her and her biggest songs keep getting slightly edged out by other songs. I do still love this one:

Santigold - This Isn't Our Parade

I would have nominated Disparate Youth for track 2 if I'd thought of it. Tremendous song.

That one was superseded by Kelly Clarkson, just barely. No regrets. A lot of subsequent favorites are already barely superseded ("Perfect Life" for track 9 for example, "Lights Out" or "Riots Gone" for track 7).

I just skimmed her discography and she's a god damn treasure. I could put together a killer playlist of her best songs between her four albums and some soundtrack work. I also love that she decided to add dancehall to her already vast repertoire on her last album and it fucking kills.

Would track 15 of 17 track CD be eligible for track A6? Never released on vinyl or cass according to discogs.

Yup. The only caveat is that if you do nominate it, it can't be re-nominated for S2T6.
