Let me know what you think:
I haven't got Spotify but I lined up the tracks on YouTube and had a very enjoyable couple of listens through. Really digging "Who I Thought You Were", "The Keepers" and "Run the Road." On my third listen now and they're definitely growers. And Jesus, she is gorgeous, hard to believe she's in her forties in some of those videos.
"Who I Thought You Were" has a great new wave almost punk vibe to it that I don't get on most of her stuff. That one immediately caught my ear. She definitely knows her way around a hook which makes her discography so consistent. The dancehall mixtape/album (Run the Road is from this) was a little disappointing for me at first because it's not as diverse as her other albums, but there are some great hooks and it's executed so well.
Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

Kate has much better songs than this one. The whole of Hounds of Love for instance.
Nah, she was the Orson Welles of the music world. Hit her first delivery out of the park then never bettered it.
Like Orson, three or four classics over the years afterwards
Yeah, but Wuthering Heights just has that otherworldly magic for me. Everything about it is great. Fantastic chord sequence, weird drum timing, impeccable melody and topped with that crazy yet seductive voice.
Yeah Ian Bairnson and Dave Gilmour are great.
The solo is great at the end but most of the heavy lifting has already been done.

I love the melody I can't deny that. I'm really not that keen on the subject matter never cared for Wuthering Heights the book/story does nothing for me. Shame it's not about something else really.

Never read it mate. I actually never understood many of the lyrics until I read up on them a couple of years back.

It'll be a case of which version was a hit in your territory. We got the English lyrics but America and others got the German version. Weird.

In Canada, it was primarily the English version, but occasionally the German was played.

My main memory of that time is her ridiculolusly German armpits on Top of the Pops. It was the talk of the playground.
