I just get the vibe that Ullman doesn't really care about music but liked the idea of success at any cost.
She's very old school variety act. Bonnie Langford vibes.
so don't complain about your useless employment
Jack it in forever tonight

She was just another actor cashing in with a few singles as they all did back then.

I thought her singles were a cut above the usual actor tosh. The fact TDK was a big hit in the States tells me it had a touch of class about it.
There's a tiny, tiny hopeful part of me that says you guys are running a Kaufmanesque long con on the board

Take any UK artist's chart success in the early MTV era as a result mostly due to the fact that UK artists produced more videos than American artists. That gave them exposure they otherwise wouldn't have, which led to sales they wouldn't have had. Structure was more important than aesthetics to explain the second British Invasion, even if that's more boring/less romantic.

I deliberately insulated myself from this sort of thing, still do.

Nice to see "Brass in Pocket" in the lead as it's Chrissie's birthday. Happy birthday Chrissie.

I'm sure this song was really written about some of 101's teenage exploits and should be called "Bra's in Pocket".
