Beatles Survivor Poll - Please Please Me Side B / Round 6

"There's a Place" moving on...but does it have enough momentum to take down "Twist and Shout"??

I'm voting out Twist and Shout. There's a Place is perfectly crafted and is really the emergence of what makes so much of the Beatles craftsmanship so timeless and captivating.

Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a rolling hoop
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a ton of lead
Wiggle - you can raise the dead

I'm joining you on this. Twist and Shout is a great performance and it's a fun listen, but at the end of the day it's still a cover pulled from their live set to fill out a LP. There's a Place is an original composition that finds the band really starting to move forward.

Lennon's vocal on Twist and Shout is vulnerably indestructible.

Because I favoured the poppier song over the rocker for the A side, I'll balance it off by supporting T&S here. Tho, again, no problem with There's a Place winning.

Twist gets the vote for me, though it's merits are evident, I don't like the shouty vocals personally. There's A Place starts with that dreaded harmonica but apart from that it's a solid track full of lovely harmonies.

I cannot listen to Twist and Shout without imagining John stripped to the waist in the studio, late at night (as he was) giving it his all on the very last take of the day with a voice shredded by a complete day's recording. Let's face it, after this performance there certainly would have been nothing left for a re-take. T & S definitely stays for me (although that's never been in doubt since vote 1).
