The critics have spoken and 2 tracks have been eliminated: Mr. Moonlight and Kansas City.

is the song about trying to bang a widow at her husband's funeral in danger?

I don't know why people are so down on RnR Music, belting vocal from Lennon, better than Chuck for me.

Likening the Beatles to Phil Collins is a serious step over the line.
For the record, I agree with Heston here. Lennon's had a better rock n roll voice than Chuck.

You want a song about rock and roll and its power to be as raucous as possible. Chuck's version is nice but Lennon seems to tap into the real essence of the songWolter wrote: ↑03 Nov 2020, 7:36pmI absolutely cannot give credence to this viewpoint as anything but diseased.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑03 Nov 2020, 7:28pmLikening the Beatles to Phil Collins is a serious step over the line.

Exactly. Lennon's rough voice is the kind of thing that would offend the people who loved proper classical music. It has a fuck-you quality to it that elevates it over the original.Heston wrote: ↑03 Nov 2020, 7:45pmYou want a song about rock and roll and its power to be as raucous as possible. Y’all aren’t going to convince me that four white dudes tapped into a Chuck Berry song better than Chuck Berry. Prefer it all you want, but you’re arguing in a manner where I cannot help but reject your premise outright.
De gustibus etc. etc. but you aren’t convincing me.

It's just in the voice, simple as that. Lennon sings rock and roll better.Wolter wrote: ↑03 Nov 2020, 7:57pmY’all aren’t going to convince me that four white dudes tapped into a Chuck Berry song better than Chuck Berry. It sounds like that old nursery rhyme, "Johnny's So Long At the Fair." And those harmonies are just too queasily country and western for me.

That seems like an argument from principle rather than judging the actual results. Like you, if you genuinely prefer Chuck's version, that's cool, but to suggest that under no circumstances could "four white dudes" do a better version sounds like judging the results regardless of hearing them.Wolter wrote: ↑03 Nov 2020, 7:57pmY’all aren’t going to convince me that four white dudes tapped into a Chuck Berry song better than Chuck Berry.
