Rubber Soul - Side B - Round 1
This side of the LP is not as strong...but it still contains some real gems.

I hate the underlying abusive misogyny of “Run For Your Life” more than I like the generally good music and delivery.

Seperating the fact that Lennon was a fucking wife beating arsehole, I can go with Run For Your Life as a first person literary piece on a sociopathic murderer and enjoy it on that level. Bit of a mental leap, but I enjoy the song and that's a rationalisation that lets me do so guiltlessly.

Eichmann was able to rationalize what he did, too.Silent Majority wrote: ↑02 Dec 2020, 1:10pmSeperating the fact that Lennon was a fucking wife beating arsehole, I can go with Run For Your Life as a first person literary piece on a sociopathic murderer and enjoy it on that level. (RFYL is gonna go out quickly regardless and I have no attachment to it, so I'm fine with bandwagon jumping.)

As usual I will start with the Country and Western number.

It's just a genre I don't care for, and I don't particularly like Ringo's voice when it's working with weak material. Not a good combo.

"I'm Looking Through You" needs to win this side. An amazing track, one of Macca's best. Great chord changes and a biting lyric.

"In My Life" is too strong and will win this side easily.WestwayKid wrote: ↑02 Dec 2020, 1:45pm"I'm Looking Through You" needs to win this side. An amazing track, one of Macca's best. Great chord changes and a biting lyric.

same. I could probably separate art from artist a bit more if it didn't read like an autobiography of how John Lennon spent a bunch of his Thursday nights.
