Flex (and I think Wolter) led me to re-listen to YS with a fresh mind some years ago, plus I reconsidered/recontextualized it within the context of the times (especially how hippies adopted it as an anthem). The childlike quality of its construction is something I'd previously dismissed as a goofy throwaway, but I appreciate it's joy and light weird fantasy quality. Aesthetically, it's not of a piece with most of the album, but spiritually(?) it fits in quite well with the most psychedelic songs.
it's also a compelling depiction of underwater life.
A prequel to the Pistols' Submission.
Sub-Mission. That hyphen is important even more so here. ;)

Depicted better in Octopus's Garden.
Nah, Octopus' Garden is misleading. Octopi are Lovecraftian monstrosities and boys and girls would CERTAINLY NOT be safe in their hellish gardens, particularly without any man-made apparatus to help them breathe and keep from being crushed under oceanic pressures. Like, I dunno, a submarine or something.
I can corroborate this.
