I guess I think tunes are overrated if what you want is atmosphere, which I'm often in the mood for. I'd put it on par with ambient stuff maybe.
I agree with you in principle, tho not in this specific instance. As I said earlier, the sounds are appealing but the overall song is fairly meh.
YOUR OPINION, SIR, IS MEH

Nah you're fine

Still, I would have thought that even the quarter-song that is the theme reprise would go first.
THAT REPRISE KICKS FUCKING ASS
But it's not a full song.
It's a mixture of filler and a half-assed reminder that this is supposed to be a concept album. Honestly, even with ADitL, it's the thinnest Side 2 of any mid- and late-period Beatles record.
Back off, or I'll blow the roof off—with sound!

It doesn't matter, it's the most important part of the album, setting up A Day In the Life. It would have sounded shit coming in after a cockerel.

I raise you any side of the White album, especially four.

The White Album side 3 kills it for me.

Just checked the sides of the White Album and MAYBE side 4 is weaker. MAYBE.

So you're more likely to vote in favor of the quasi-song that sets up the best song on the album rather than the best song itself?

Even ignoring its skill in setting up ADItL, it is probably the second best song on the side. Lovely Rita is pretty good but that reprise re-energises the album. It is just an electric performance.

It is probably about on par with sides 1 to 3, don't forget A Fucking Day In the Life is on that side, but yeah, side 4 is worse for sure.

*phew* Any side with "Monkey" and "Helter Skelter" should be treasured. What a shame that only one of them will escape the voting (unless we make sure they tie).

As much as I love ADitL and it's brilliance that side is pretty weak. And yes 100% "Monkey" and "Helter Skelter" are my bag too.

I'm changing my mind. I'm placing The White Album ahead of MMT as my favourite (especially after that recent remaster). I love even the weirdo McCartney songs like "Rocky (Olaf) Racoon" and "Honey Pie." It's my favourite McCartney Beatles record without a doubt. Really, the only thing I can't stand is the very last track, Lennon/Ringo's schmaltzy "Good Night."
