Abbey Road - Side A - Round 1

Post by WestwayKid »

The Beatles on Maxwell's Silver Hammer:

John: "I was ill after the accident when they did most of that track, and it really ground George and Ringo into the ground recording it. I hate it, 'cos all I remember is the track ... [Paul] did everything to make it into a single, and it never was and it never could have been."

George: "Sometimes Paul would make us do these really fruity songs. I mean, my God, 'Maxwell's Silver Hammer' was so fruity. After a while we did a good job on it, but when Paul got an idea or an arrangement in his head …"

Ringo: "The worst session ever was 'Maxwell's Silver Hammer.' It was the worst track we ever had to record. It went on for f***ing weeks. I thought it was mad."

I never got the hate for Maxwell. It's no better or worse than plenty of other Beatles songs.

Yeah. I’m always baffled by that. In my mind it’s mid tier.

It is the worst song here though. Which lunatic voted for Oh Darling?

Me! I don’t like it.

EDIT: I am aware this is a terrible opinion. My wife loves it and serenaded me with it at our wedding, but I just don’t like it.

I love Maxwell, fun tune.

Not my favourite album of theirs so a few tracks could get the chop for me.

I can only assume people who don't like Maxwell never listened to the Beatles when they were kids. Fun, playful tune.
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a bowl of soup
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a rolling hoop
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a ton of lead
Wiggle - you can raise the dead

I just realized you can sing the chorus of MSH to the TNMT theme because you can sing each of my sons’ names to both.

“Jackson Maxwell Goodman Wolter” is especially satisfying for that.

I decided the funniest thing to do would be to just dive right in and start voting off "Something" so that's what I'm gonna do. So many fun songs and rockers on this side I'd rather be listening to.

I can't possibly fathom what's so objectionable about telling Homer where to find the plate of brownies.

I love the middle 8 of Something, the rest of it not so much.

Real talk: I like solo George best of all the solo Beatles, but I only sort of like Beatles George.
