The goal is to make this a readable novel, not an endless fantasy series.
So you'll be taking KISS of the list posthaste.
No, sir, I expect the wise assessment of the community has decided that KISS does not merit inclusion to the next round. No matter what else happens here, the voters have demonstrated their wisdom.

If he had released an album in 1979 then I'm sure it would've been better than "Dynasty".

But he would have recorded as wretched a song as "Charisma."

One of my top picks from the album. Insane cocaine rock/pop that sounds like Right Said Fred on steroids.

I've just noticed, it is a very UK-centric list. I'm proud to say two of the albums I voted for were American.

I would bet Olaf's ownership stake in Bavarian Raccoon Motorworks that Gene thought sexuality meant sexiness in that song. I mean, what kind of guy brags to a girl he's trying to impress that, yeah, baby, I'm a heterosexual dude.

I noticed that, too, when I put it together. It's suggestive that punk really was a quick mini-blip in the US before heading underground, whereas the UK (esp. because of the music press) was more inclined to keep the line moving.

By 1979 the UK had entered the second wave of punk groups. UK Subs/Angelic Upstarts etc released their debut albums. But this isn't a best punk album of 1979 poll.

But a lot of the albums being considered have their roots or inspiration in first-wave UK punk. In terms of public attention, things didn't just evaporate like in the US (not that US punk made much of a dent in public consciousness or sales charts). The UK was far more fertile and rewarding terrain for bands inspired by 1976.

It's insane to me that as things stand, kiss is moving forward and the b-52s and xtc (and the raincoats!!!) are getting left behind.

Also, in a slight counter to the usual '79 trend, Devo released their weakest of their first three LPs that year, Duty Now For the Future. A fine record, but the releases on either side of that one are more important and better. 79 doesn't quite win them all, I suppose.

KISS is on here as a joke, Im sure Leo Sayer (new band idea Leo Slayer - plays death speed/metal covers of Leo Sayer songs) or Styx also released albums that year that so sucked less than Dynasty.

Also in the face of the other bands B52'S and XTC dont belong past the 1st round

I don't really have a strong opinion on xtc but that first b-52s album is better than all but, at most, 5 of the other albums up there.

Addendum: okay, 10 of the albums up there.

A pang of regret for not voting for Bowie or Talking Heads or XTC.
