Greatest Album of 1979 - Elimination Round 2
The first round ended in a tie between the Skids and the Slits. Without hesitation, I cast my deciding vote against the Skids. Fuck off, ya bunch of Scottish bagpipe guitarin' yahoos.
Keep the line moving, folks.

Now. Now we're in the hard part. Tempted to vote for the regressive rock n roll of the Clash.

Been listening to a few of these albums I'm less familiar with than others. The Slits is really rather good, probably 30 years since i last spun a full lp. But then, they're all rather good on this list!

My real interest in the arguments is to see whether some will put up one to vote against the Clash. That is, there are good arguments to favour others on this list, but the nature of the board means privileging LC. So that kind of errand into the wilderness appeals to me both intellectually and mischievously.Silent Majority wrote: ↑18 May 2021, 8:44amNow. Now we're in the hard part. For purposes of this exercise I could cast off half of these rather easily. Not denigrating any of them but some just appeal to me more than others
Re: Greatest Album of 1979 - Elimination Round 2
Is it really fair to have LC on a Clash board? lol

Seems like it would be a given to me.

Wolter raised this point earlier. LC's presence does eliminate a lot of the mystery of the final result, but then these games have never been about results so much as the conversation it generates. Evaluating LC against other records (and vice versa) can still be worthwhile, I think.

I guess we can always vote against the Clash because that would be the punk thing to do.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑18 May 2021, 10:36amWolter raised this point earlier. What better way of expressing our outrage at how they let down the fans over and over?Mimi wrote: ↑18 May 2021, 10:37amI guess we can always vote against the Clash because that would be the punk thing to do.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑18 May 2021, 10:36amWolter raised this point earlier. Worst live band, ever.

It's not, but it's still a top-tier album compared to the others in this poll.
