I'm dead disappointed that Go4 look next to go. My favourite album ever on some days.
IMCT hates radical politics.
We're a hateful bunch.
Counterpoint: Many of you love really suspect music.
Let's leave Tom and Heston out of this.
One man's suspect music is another man's Girls On Film.
There's a tiny, tiny hopeful part of me that says you guys are running a Kaufmanesque long con on the board

Nah, I'm not having that. It's a cracking pop song. Brilliant drum and percussion track, bubbling bass, and great funk guitar. If it was a Chic backing track people would be bestowing honours upon it.

If Rev wants to pick on some of the later stuff I will fully agree with him but early Duran were anything but a boy band. They were keen students of music who could play their instruments and formed organically.

I lose interest after Rio but you can't really deny those first two.

I think girls on film is a pretty good single but not good enough to want to defend DD from the very amusing accusation of being a boy band for 13 year old girls.

Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a rolling hoop
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a ton of lead

T. Rex and Bowie had swathes of 13 year old female fans. I'd just like to think I can see beyond superficial things like that and judge something purely on musical merit.

If they weren't a bunch of pretty boys who really understood the importance of visuals, they wouldn't have separated themselves from the pack. Whatever their virtues musically, it was being pretty boys that made them.

I'm not convinced by that argument. OMD ploughed the same furrow with much success and they were ugly as sin.

OMD were way different throughout their first several albums. Dour, synth minimalism. They weren't playing to 13-year-old girls; OMD was for the Joy Division crowd.

I've just listened to the first DD album and it is downright weird in places. Yes, there's three poppy singles there but the rest of it seems anything but teeny bopper music. And let's face it, the first few OMD singles were anything but dour.

Defending DD with OMD, I think my stop is the next one because this bus is heading to 80s hell.

I'm not defending anything, just saying I think DD would have had hits without being as good looking. And hey, you're bailing out on a subject you brought up!
