Greatest Album of 1979 - Elimination Round 9 - The Final
The Clash. The Specials. It had to happen! The senses-shattering conclusion of our 1979 survivor poll happens here, true believers!

Hard to fathom that some poor misguided soul is trying to vote "London Calling" off on a Clash message board. Go figure.

Y'all have already voted off better records, so there's no value in divining intent.

(I never should have said whether people were voting for or against albums in the final round, just to add a dollop of chaos and anger to the whole thing. Oh well, democracy is imperfect.)

Re: Greatest Album of 1979 - Elimination Round 9 - The Final
Despite the fact that a bunch of the actual most creative and important records of '79 were eliminated far too quickly, the final two is still pretty fine. The 2 Tone ur-LP and, of course, the monolith of a Clash album.

I love the Specials but this album is 50% covers. Time to go.

I'd love to hear from the four people (currently) who voted to send LC packing. A sincere preference or evaluation for the Specials or middle-finger to conventional wisdom/the crowd? Or something else?

There's a tiny, tiny hopeful part of me that says you guys are running a Kaufmanesque long con on the board

Spite, because including it was a bad idea.

Yeah, I think so too. There was no drama in the final as we knew who would win. Maybe something to take on board going forward? But then again, Combat Rock could possibly lose to Rio in the 1982 poll.

I would definitely vote for The 82 Black Flag demos over Combat Rock.
