activation email not received

I'm in the process of de-googling which involves changing my @gmail.com to @******
After editing the email address field in 'control panel > profile > edit account settings' it logs me out but I don't receive the activation email and any attempt to log in says 'this account is not active...'
Email in general is working because I re-registered under my old email address (with a new name) and all is good, but can someone check if ****** is blocked or something? And, yes, I did check spam :)
